Chevron Challenge
This activity focuses on identifying the function of chevrons (angle brackets) in different sentences. Students read a sentence using angle brackets and then write down what the brackets are being used for-such as inserting asides, quoting speech, or mentioning websites. The worksheet includes six example sentences to analyze. It’s a direct application of angle brackets in practical sentence construction.
This worksheet supports the development of reading comprehension by requiring students to interpret punctuation in context. It enhances critical thinking as students must evaluate and categorize the role of brackets. By recognizing the function of punctuation, students improve their sentence-level reading fluency. The exercise also reinforces knowledge of syntax and punctuation for clearer expression.
