Surprise Thoughts
This worksheet asks students to reflect on their learning by completing three prompts – “I was surprised to learn that…”, “It makes sense to me now that…”, and “Something I’m still curious about is…”. Each prompt encourages personal insight and fosters reflective thinking. The illustrations on the worksheet make it visually engaging and fun for younger students. The prompts help students summarize their understanding, express clarity, and voice lingering questions.
Using this worksheet improves students’ critical thinking and self-expression. By summarizing what they learned, students practice paraphrasing and clarifying their ideas. The prompts also help them engage with metacognition, a key reading and writing skill. Finally, the opportunity to pose questions encourages curiosity and deeper comprehension.
