Troll Bridge Battle
The story tells of three billy goats—Gruff, Muff, and Tuff—who wish to cross a bridge to reach better grazing land. The bridge, however, is guarded by a troll who threatens to eat them. Each goat, starting with the smallest, tricks the troll into waiting for the larger one to cross. When the largest goat finally confronts the troll, he defeats him, and all three goats safely reach the lush meadow.
This story enhances comprehension skills by encouraging students to follow the sequence of each goat’s encounter with the troll. Critical thinking is fostered as students consider how each goat uses cleverness to outwit the troll. Vocabulary related to animals, negotiation, and conflict is expanded. Additionally, students develop an understanding of story structure, from introduction to climax and resolution.
