Add an Adjective
This worksheet introduces consonance in a very approachable way, especially if this is your child’s first time seeing the concept. It explains that consonance is the repetition of consonant sounds within words or sentences, not just at the beginning like alliteration. That distinction is important, and this page does a nice job of showing it with a clear example. Then your child gets to try it themselves by adding adjectives to nouns to create that repeated sound pattern.
As your child works through this, they’re not just learning a definition-they’re actually playing with language. They’ll start to hear how certain sounds repeat and how that makes phrases more interesting or catchy. You might even notice them saying the words out loud, which is a great sign they’re engaging with the sound of language. This kind of activity builds early awareness of how writing can sound, not just what it means. Over time, that awareness supports both reading fluency and more creative writing.
