Collocation Builder
Students are asked to create two common collocations for each of the base verbs provided, such as “go,” “take,” “make,” “have,” and “do.” This exercise encourages creativity and recall, as students must draw upon their knowledge of English to think of collocations they have encountered. By generating phrases themselves, students engage with the material more actively than by simple matching. This helps reinforce collocational vocabulary in a personalized and meaningful way.
Constructing collocations from scratch fosters language production and vocabulary recall skills, as students independently think of appropriate word combinations. This type of exercise strengthens memory retention because students actively create language rather than just recognizing correct answers. It also enhances expressive language skills, as they develop flexibility in forming natural, common phrases. Ultimately, this reinforces fluency, as students get comfortable with frequently used word combinations.
