Verb Expander
This worksheet asks students to add a verb provided in parentheses to each sentence so the final sentence contains a compound predicate. Students begin with a sentence that already includes one action and must incorporate the additional verb so the subject performs two actions in the completed sentence. For example, a sentence such as “The boy dropped his ice cream” becomes a compound predicate when the second action is added.
Practicing this type of sentence expansion helps students understand how compound predicates are formed and how verbs work together in a sentence. By transforming a simple predicate into a compound one, students strengthen their ability to recognize verbs, apply conjunctions correctly, and build more detailed sentences. This supports stronger grammar awareness and helps students develop clearer and more expressive writing.
