Second Action
In this activity, students add a second verb or action to complete each sentence. The sentence starters already contain a subject and one action, and students must supply another related action so that the subject performs two actions in the final sentence. This requires students to think about how verbs logically connect within a sentence.
Adding a second action encourages students to actively construct compound predicates instead of simply identifying them. This improves sentence-building skills and encourages thoughtful verb selection. Students also develop stronger sentence fluency and gain practice creating more dynamic and descriptive writing.
