Predicate Basics
This worksheet introduces students to the idea of a compound predicate. It explains that when a subject performs more than one action, the sentence contains more than one verb connected by conjunctions such as and, or, or but. Students read a model sentence and identify how the subject performs two actions. They then examine several sentences and decide which ones contain compound predicates by recognizing when the same subject is doing multiple things.
Studying explanations like this strengthens students’ understanding of sentence structure and grammar foundations. By learning to recognize multiple verbs connected to one subject, students become better at identifying predicates and understanding how sentences are built. This improves reading comprehension because students can more easily analyze how ideas are connected in a sentence. It also improves writing because students learn how to combine actions smoothly and create more detailed, complete sentences.
