The Tyger
This worksheet introduces your child to consonance through poetry, using lines from William Blake’s The Tyger. Poetry is a great place to study sound because it often uses patterns very intentionally. Your child reads each line and identifies the repeated consonant sounds. This helps them see how authors use consonance to create rhythm and mood.
As they go through the poem, your child starts to connect sound with meaning. They may notice how certain repeated sounds make the poem feel more intense or memorable. This builds both reading comprehension and appreciation for how writing works. It also shows them that literary devices aren’t just rules-they’re tools authors use for a purpose. Over time, this helps your child read more thoughtfully and write with more intention.
