Fake News Finder
This worksheet focuses on identifying and analyzing fake news by distinguishing between disinformation and misinformation. Students are prompted to find an example of fake news, note where and when they saw it, and describe its content and intended audience. They must also reflect on why they think the content is misleading or false. This activity encourages students to become more aware of deceptive information and how it can spread.
Learning to identify fake news builds students’ media literacy and critical thinking by fostering an understanding of bias and intent in media. Differentiating between disinformation and misinformation strengthens their ability to assess source reliability and intent. This exercise also enhances vocabulary skills as students define terms and explain their reasoning. Such tasks prepare students to engage with media more responsibly, recognizing trustworthy information.
