Savanna Homes
This passage describes where lions live. Although called the “King of the Jungle,” lions actually live in the grasslands and savannas of Africa, and a small group of Asiatic lions lives in India. These open habitats allow lions to see and hunt easily. The passage also notes that lions need space, prey, and water to survive and face threats from habitat loss and human expansion.
Students improve geographical and environmental literacy by linking habitat to survival needs. The passage develops vocabulary related to ecosystems and supports comprehension of descriptive nonfiction. It also promotes awareness of conservation challenges.
